Stafford, Virginia, has one of the highest concentrations of museums and historical sites in the United States. There is something here for every historical taste and interest level. The best historical tour of the area starts with Aquia Church. Built between 1751 and 1757, Aquia Church is one of the oldest colonial churches still in operation today. The Stafford Civil War Park commemorates 1863 winter encampments of the 11th Corps of the Union Army, following the 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg. The park includes historic markers, picnic tables, interpretive signs, and walking trails for a day of history and fun. After a morning at Civil War Park, a stop at Government Island is a must for any Stafford history tour. The 17-acre historic site is also known as "America's Historic Stone Quarry." The stone that was used to build both the U.S. Capitol and the White House was taken directly from this location. The park includes a beautiful boardwalk and scenic trail.

Tacketts Mill anchors the northern portion of Stafford, Brooke Road and Marlborough Point Road are it southern border, and Ramoth is to the west. Newer home constructions (2000 or later) make up about 25 percent of the current market. There are also a number of homes built in the 1930s or earlier.
