Patrick Bain

President and Chief Executive Officer of The Long & Foster Companies

Patrick Bain is the president and chief executive officer of The Long & Foster Companies. He guides the strategic direction and operations of the organization’s business lines: real estate, property management, mortgage, settlement services, insurance, moving, inspections, corporate real estate services, and new development real estate sales and marketing. In addition, he oversees six enterprise functions: human resources, legal, marketing, information services, finance and facilities.

Patrick joined The Long & Foster Companies in May 2010, as president of the insurance and home warranty businesses. In 2018, he added Long & Foster Property Management and Long & Foster Rental Service Center to his responsibilities. He successfully restructured and rebranded the property management business to HomeServices Property Management in 2022.

In 2021, Patrick started Insight Home Inspections to add to the suite of real estate services that Long & Foster agents can provide their clients. Insight was launched in early 2022 and is expanding across Long & Foster’s service area. In addition to the property services group, Patrick also oversaw Long & Foster’s home warranty strategic partnerships.

During his tenure at Long & Foster, Patrick has become widely known as a collaborative, innovative and strategic leader, and in 2023, he was promoted to president and CEO of The Long & Foster Companies. He brings extensive industry expertise to the role, as well as an established record of driving business performance and delivering best-in-class customer experiences.

His expertise in the insurance and financial services industry spans more than 30 years. Prior to joining Long & Foster, he was vice-president and general manager for Howard Hanna Insurance Services, headquartered in Pittsburgh with operations throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and West Virginia. Under his leadership, Howard Hanna’s insurance and home warranty businesses grew dramatically and were recognized nationally by the insurance and real estate industries. During Patrick’s tenure, Howard Hanna Insurance was ranked the No. 1 independent real estate-related insurance and home warranty company for 2009 and 2010 by REAL Trends, an industry ranking service.

In 1998, Patrick founded and led sales and marketing efforts for InsRateDirect.com, an internet insurance startup specializing in home and auto insurance products, lead generation, and distribution. He was also the managing partner at The McDonnell Bain Group, an independent insurance agency in the Baltimore metropolitan area. McDonnell Bain was awarded Maryland's New Agency of the Year in 1999 by Erie Insurance Group. Patrick negotiated the successful sale of both companies to larger insurance entities in 2002.

Patrick has been a member of advisory boards of many national and regional insurance carriers throughout the United States. The insurance agencies he has led over the years received national and regional performance rewards, including four-times awarded Insurance Agency of the Year by Travelers Insurance. He is a graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He currently lives in Reston, Virginia.
